Matt grew up hiking and climbing on the east slopes of the Sierra Nevada. His love of the outdoors drew him to Tucson, Arizona in the early 1990’s. Since then he has been actively pursuing  hiking, climbing and cycling interests while building a reputation as an excellent freelance outdoor journalist. Matt traveled to Aconcagua, in Argentina, in 1999, 2000 and 2001 to climb and clean up the highest peak in the Western Hemisphere.
